Overview:
This client has been in business for over 50 years. The client’s management team had been promised a Pay for Performance Plan repeatedly over the last several years. The individuals comprising the team had previously received periodic bonuses, which had no direct correlation to its contribution to the success of the Company. Bonuses were awarded for merely “breathing” for another year.

Approach:
Comprehensive Business Consulting & Training Corp. was retained to meet with the owners of the firm and each member of the management team to access their perceptions of the Company goals and how each member’s role contributed to the success of the goals. As expected, there were a myriad of perceptions which were not always accurate, nor were they necessarily complementary to one another.

Result:
Once consensus was reached on the Company goals, Comprehensive Business Consulting & Training Corp. developed a Pay for Performance Plan for each member (who), with what is to be done (his/her goals), why the goal was important (relevance), the weight (influence) the achievement of the goal with have on his/her overall award, how the goals were to be measured (key performance indicators) along with applicable due dates (when). This objective way of reviewing individual and team successes related to the Company’s strategic & operational goals, eliminated the “bias” inherent in distributing bonuses based on an employee’s latest success or failure; but instead rewarded contributions which have been identified to add value to the firm.
